Peacemaking for Life is the website of freelance writer John Whitehead. The essays provided on this site analyze various aspects of the pro-peace/anti-war cause, with a special emphasis on the campaign against nuclear weapons. John writes on peace and war from his perspective as a peace-minded, pro-life Catholic who is dissatisfied by the options currently offered by the major American political parties and ideological groupings.
One influence on John’s writing is the philosophy of the consistent ethic of life, which involves defending life from a variety of threats, whether war, abortion, euthanasia, the death penalty, or other forms of violence. Although working for peace and against war is the primary focus of this website, other life issues will sometimes be covered.
John received his bachelor’s degree in Classics from the University of Chicago and his master’s degree in Security Policy Studies from the Elliot School of International Affairs at George Washington University. From 2017 to 2020, John served as president of the Consistent Life Network, an international network for peace, justice, and life. John also serves as a staff editor for Rehumanize International.
Many of the essays on this site previously appeared on the blog of the Consistent Life Network or in Life Matters Journal. These and any other previous venues are noted at the end of the essays, along with the years in which the essays were originally published. The opinions expressed on this site, however, are John’s alone and should not be taken to reflect those of the Consistent Life Network, Rehumanize International, or any other organization.
